• More

More: a greater or additional amount or degree of

    I want more.

We’ve probably uttered this phrase a thousand times in our life. Whether it’s in regard to food, money, time, or whatever, I’m sure you’ve said it at least once.

But how often have we said to God, “I want more of you”?

Do you desire more of God?

As Christians, we are called to continual growth. We are not to remain stagnant. We should be asking God for more.

The definition of more is simple: a greater or additional amount of something. Today, I encourage you to ask for more of Him in your life.

Ask for more of His presence. Ask for more of His time. Ask for more of His Spirit. Ask for more of His direction, His love, or whatever it is you need. Ask for more today.

Then, give Him the room to work it out. If we want a larger amount of something, we have to make room for it in our lives. The same is true for God. We have to make room for Him.

He wants you to have more. He desires for you to ask for more. So what are you waiting for?

Say, “I want more of you, God” today!

  • Make God Big in Your Life

Listen to me, Jacob, Israel, whom I have called: I am he; I am the first and I am the last. My own hand laid the foundations of the earth, and my right hand spread out the heavens; when I summon them, they all stand up together (Isaiah 48:12-13, NIV).

I recall, from my childhood, two men in our community who physically seemed larger than life. Since I was a small child, I’m not sure how tall or heavy they really were. However, to me, they were very imposing men.

Bernard was one of them. He was a tall, broad shouldered man with a really long beard. I remember him always wearing coveralls and always being accompanied by two huge dogs. He was a war veteran who rarely spoke to anyone. Honestly, I was somewhat afraid of him.

Clarence, my next door neighbor, was the other man. He was also a big man who lived alone and didn’t seem very friendly.

One day, Clarence came over to our house carrying a brown and white puppy. I saw him talking to my dad. Somehow he talked Dad into letting me have the puppy. He brought it to me and said, “Here boy, I thought you might want your own dog.” Brownie was my companion for years, and I looked at Clarence in a totally different way. My perception of him had been inaccurate.

Sometimes our perception of God is the opposite of my perception of these men. Instead of God being larger than life, we make our problems bigger than Him. I encourage you to make God big in your life. Start by looking at the Biblical description of Him.

His Word alone was sufficient to bring creation into existence. Hear the words of Jesus in Matthew 4: “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God.” His Word is powerful; His Word is bigger than life to us. Now, look at the description of His presence.

In Isaiah 66:1, God declares, “The heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool.” His presence is imposing! He occupies all space, time, and eternity. Yes, He is bigger than life — but so is His love.

Do you know that God loves you so much that He is thinking about you right now? Psalm 139:17 states that His thoughts toward you are precious and great in number. Make no mistake — He wants you saved and He wants you blessed. All you need to do for that to happen is to make God big in your life.

  • Not Usually the Favorite, but Always Favored

Ah, favoritism. That dreaded word that most people don’t want to talk about but have been affected by in some way or another. I’ve had some experience with being the favorite, but more often than not, I’m on the other side of it. I’ve noticed that usually, people obtain favorite status with men are either extremely good at something, are very present and around a person a lot, or have a very loud personality and are hard to ignore.

People are quick to say that God doesn’t have favorites, but then you’ll hear them saying things like, “oh, she’s the best.” Or, “he’s the nicest”. Or, “isn’t she the prettiest”? It becomes painfully obvious that God may not have favorites, but people surely do.

Having introverted tendencies, I definitely don’t have a loud personality and I’m pretty easy to ignore. I do enjoy my alone time and I’m not that clingy of a person so I’m not the one to always be making myself known. However, I am pretty good at music and people seem to be drawn to that at times. Unfortunately, my experience with being peoples favorite has also led me to realize that people don’t have favorites for very long periods of time.

If I placed too much value on what people thought of me, I would never be fulfilled. I know this, because I used to do it. Sadly, these feelings still try to creep in at times. However, I know who I am in Christ and He says that I am enough. Even when people don’t agree, even when I don’t agree, He says it is true, so I choose to believe it and stand on it!

I’m so thankful for the fact that God doesn’t have favorites. This means that I don’t have to compete with someone else to get Him to notice me and give me what I need. It means that I don’t have to be good enough, pretty enough, or smart enough. It means that if I have the blood that He shed applied to my heart, I am enough in Him!

I don’t have to earn it; it was already bought and paid for. Now, all I have to do is walk in the favor that He has given me. And all you have to do is walk in the favor that He has given you. He is no respecter of persons, remember?

Psalm 5:12 says,For thou, Lord, wilt bless the righteous; with favour wilt thou compass him as with a shield.”

So if everyone has favor, then why does he mention some people in the Bible as being favored and not others? I actually asked myself that question and studied it out. What I noticed is that the people that he mentions as being favored are the ones who did ridiculously hard things out of obedience to the Lord. Luke 1:28 says, And the angel came in unto her, and said, Hail, thou that art highly favoured, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women. The angel is talking to Mary who was obviously favored but who also obviously carried the very heavy weight of being the mother of Jesus. So maybe being favored is sounding more like work.

Sometimes favor looks like blessings and open doors that, without God working on our behalf, shouldn’t be open. A lot of times it looks like more responsibility. To whom much is given, much is required. It always looks like being right with God and not having to push, lie, and steal our way to good things.

It’s knowing that God will take care of us, no matter what the world looks like. It’s knowing that He is on our side and He will make a way for us where there seems to be no way.

Maybe you don’t feel like you’re walking in favor like you want to be and would like to know how to increase your favor with the Lord. What I have learned is that increased favor comes from increased obedience. Saying yes to Him when he asks you to do the hard things is the quickest way to release His favor in your life.

I have had some very special blessings just in the past couple of weeks that I know are because of God’s favor. Ranging from a beautiful electric piano for a very small donation on my part to a gift of snack items that when I began to look at it, I realized that it contained each member of my family’s favorite things.

This gift wasn’t from anyone who would know or even care what our favorites were, (it was a local store who had gotten rid of things that were getting ready to expire to make room for more) but there they were, all of our favorites. I felt like it was God smiling on me and telling me that me and my family are seen, loved, and taken care of. This is not all of the blessings we received in that couple weeks! We have been blessed in other ways as well, saving us a couple hundred dollars.

You all, I am in tears just typing this blog and thinking about the goodness of God. I will say that not all weeks are like this. But I can say with assurance that I know that God will not only provide for our needs, but sometimes, He will also give us our favorite things too, just because He loves us.

I have some other specific things that I’m believing Him for. What I need is kinda big, but it shouldn’t scare me. I know it doesn’t scare Him. What I need it for is to advance His kingdom and He is NOT poor. Psalm 50:10-12 says,For every beast of the forest is mine, and the cattle upon a thousand hills. I know all the fowls of the mountains: and the wild beasts of the field are mine. If I were hungry, I would not tell thee: for the world is mine, and the fullness thereof.”

Matthew 7:11 says,If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?” I am His child, and I am asking Him right now to provide for that need. I have faith that He will do it!

You all, it’s not that I’m all that special. Believe me, I’m definitely not. But I do love Jesus and I try to please Him. One of the greatest rewards of his favor for me is not all the extra things, but it’s knowing that Romans 8:28 is true when it saysAnd we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are called according to his purpose.”

You can claim that today as your own, because if you are God’s child and you’re walking in obedience to him, it is yours! Know who you are in Christ and walk in the favor that belongs to you!

  • How To Hold On

    What’s up guys!

The enemy has really been putting roadblocks in my path lately. I mean, it is so hard to stay focused and stay positive.

There is a school I want to go to and there are a lot of prerequisites. I mean a lot! I thought I was going to get in and today, I found out that I don’t meet the requirements for admission.

Guys, I am crushed… I have to wait until next year to apply! I have been waiting two years to apply already. And I am not known to be very good at waiting.

Lately I have had to do a bunch of waiting, and it would be very easy to just give up. Honestly I almost did, but my pastor reminded me that the enemy will try to derail my plans and that I have to fight the good fight of faith! I can’t let Satan steal what the Lord has put on my heart.

I have a purpose and a calling, and the Bible says in 1 Timothy chapter 6 verse 12, “Fight the good fight of faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called when you made your good confession in the presence of many witnesses”.

It is a fight; it is hard, but you have to hold on and don’t let go! The enemy will try to trip you up and make you want to give up, but you rebuke him and speak life!

Trust me, I know it’s hard! Here is how you and I can fight:

First, hit your knees. Pray. Pray for God to give you wisdom, patience, and grace.

Next, call what is not as though it is. SPEAK LIFE!

Lastly, and probably most importantly, worship Him and thank Him for what He is going to do! When you worship, you are giving God something to work with.

Don’t let go! If God has called you, He will equip you!

Remember, God loves you and so do I!

  • His Love Has Not Faded

I’m reminded of a song that I haven’t heard in quite a while. I can’t remember the whole song but the lyrics, “Though you may run, miles away. His love will find you, miles away” keep playing on repeat in my mind.

I was planning on writing something completely different for my blog this week, but I felt led to write this.

I want to remind someone out there that no matter how far you’ve run, no matter how far you’ve fallen, His love will find you.

Whatever situation you’re in, whatever struggles you’re facing, He’s there and He still cares.

If you need proof, here it is: Romans 8:35-39

“Can anything ever separate us from Christ’s love? Does it mean he no longer loves us if we have trouble or calamity, or are persecuted, or hungry, or destitute, or in danger, or threatened with death? No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us. And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Nothing can separate us from the overwhelming all-powerful love of God.

I want to encourage you today that you are not too far gone. You can still turn back. God will accept you. You can still fall at His feet. God still wants you. You’re not too broken. God still loves you.

Whatever it is, wherever you’ve gone — it’s not too much for God to handle. His love conquers all.

Invite God in again, and accept His love. Let it overwhelm you and give you the victory.

Remember: God is on your side. You are not alone. You will make it. Through Christ, all things are possible. Keep marching on in His great love!

  • Worth

Worth: high value or merit; the level at which someone or something deserves to be valued or rated.

When you look in the mirror and evaluate your importance — your worth — what do you see?

Regardless of your answer to that question, I can confidently say that you are worth more than you think.

Psalm 19:20 says, “They are more precious than gold, than much pure gold; they are sweeter than honey, than honey from the honeycomb.” How amazing is that!

To be of worth means to have high value or merit.

Matthew 10 verses 30 through 31 says this: “And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. So don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.”

You have worth. You are valued. You are loved.

As you walk into this week, remember the love God has for you. Remember that He says you have worth and value, and His words are the ones that count.

  • Life In A Minor Key

And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, E’-li, E’-li, la’-ma sa-bach’-tha-ni? That is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? (Matthew 27:46)

And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross (Philippians 2:8).

Music is an interesting and integral component of the human experience. From generation to generation, it evolves into different styles, rhythms, and lyrics. Despite the changes, music always reflects various elements of life as we know it.

Keys and rhythms come together to reflect positive experiences such as joy and victory. Keys and rhythms also come together to reflect negative experiences such as grief and loneliness.

Many years ago, a unique folk song was written. One section of the song had only two keys in it — both minor keys. The combination of the two minor keys formed a foreboding, lonely sound. The music and lyrics together gave the impression that the singer was living life in a minor key.

Jesus came to this earth for the total human experience — including loneliness. When He cried out, “Why have you forsaken me?” He was experiencing life in a minor key. However, He didn’t stay there. We don’t have to stay there either. As long as we belong to God, loneliness is not a permanent or hopeless condition. It is certain, though, that we will at times live life in the minor key of loneliness.

We experience loneliness when we are abandoned by people. The Bible gives us real life examples for us to glean from. Briefly, let us look at three of them.

Joseph was favored by his father and chosen by God. Have you ever wondered how he felt when his brothers left him?

Paul was excited to have a Christian brother like Demas to help him in his ministry. In II Timothy 4:9-10 you can feel the pain in Paul’s words, “Demas has forsaken me because he loves this present world.”

In the Garden of Gethsemane, Jesus prayed alone. Then His disciples deserted him when He needed them the most.

In our lives we experience this in various ways. Many feel the sting of loneliness when a spouse walks out. Parents experience the empty nest when the last child leaves home. As Christians we stand alone when we choose to please God rather than go along with the world’s views.

We experience loneliness when we suffer persecution. Elijah fled from the wrath of Jezebel. Stephen faced the mob all alone — simply because he preached the truth. Our persecution may not seem as severe, but sooner or later some form of persecution will come. It may be in the form of lies intended to ruin our reputation. It may be simply being ostracized at our workplace. However it happens, it is a lonely place.

Scripture shows us that loneliness is a common experience. If God is with us, we are never truly alone. Loneliness is not the end of it all. Let us revisit our earlier examples to see how things worked out for them:

Joseph became the second most powerful man in Egypt.

Paul continued his ministry and wrote a large portion of the New Testament.

Elijah went on to anoint two kings and his own replacement, Elisha.

Stephen was stoned to death, but had an enormous impact on the life of Paul.

Jesus died, rose again and lives to be our intercessor forevermore.

Every now and then, life hits a minor key. Remember, the minor key is only part of the song. The presence of God in our lives makes it all beautiful music.

  • Superhero Jesus

The devil will tell us whatever lies he can to prevent us from running to the cross.

You see, Hell was NEVER meant for humans; it was meant for Satan and his angels when they rebelled against God. God wanted us to live in perfect harmony with Him from the beginning. When Satan chose to rebel and turn against God, everything changed.

There was now a bad guy in the picture. The world would one day need a superhero to save the day. After Satan rebelled, God wanted companionship, which encouraged Him to create Adam and Eve. Adam and Eve lived in perfect bliss in the Garden of Eden with God as their bestie.

Because Satan is crazy good at lying and deceiving, he convinced Eve that she was missing out on something in life and thus she ate the apple and got Adam to do the same. At that moment, they chose free will and the ability to deny God. This changed everything.

We look at God sometimes and wonder how He could possibly send people to Hell if He is so good. But that’s the lie we need to correct: God never wanted us to go to Hell. He created the perfect garden for Adam and Eve, but they chose to go against God and do the one thing He asked them not to.

We are a lot like that today, aren’t we? Our parents and leaders give us rules to follow and it seems the more rules we have, the more we want to break and disobey them.

Temptation is very strong and Satan is very clever. When God gave us free will, we now had the ball in our courts. We needed a Savior to rescue us from evil and deception. This was never God’s plan, but it is now His reality.

God doesn’t send people to Hell… we choose to accept Him and take Him at His Word, or we choose eternity with Satan. God gave us chance after chance after chance. And even after the world became incredibly evil and worshipped everything but Him, He sent His ONLY son to die on the cross. If you have any babies, you know just how selfless and hard that would be.

He sent the living, breathing Word to make a relationship and eternity in harmony with Him so accessible that anyone can receive it.

We have to change our perspective of Jesus to reflect the truth and not what Satan tries to tell us. Satan can only lie; he has no good in him. Jesus was the superhero that saved the day. Just like in your favorite Marvel movies, Jesus is the good guy. The one we always praise and adore. He couldn’t have made this any easier for us if He tried. He suffered a horrific death. He was literally perfect and people hated Him. He paid the price and he took the judgement upon himself.

It would be like if you were sitting on death row and Jesus walked in and said, “Nope, I’m here in your place. You can now walk free and you are completely washed away of any of the crimes you committed that placed you here.” No stipulations, no hidden agendas, no guilt or shame, and no need to repay the debt. It was a free gift that you could never have bought yourself.

Jesus knew that you needed rescued when humanity chose free will. Jesus is the GOOD GUY. Satan is the evil one who will stop at nothing to destroy you and everything you love.

God doesn’t hate you, He isn’t mad at you, He forgave you before you even betrayed Him. He is very real and He says we will have no excuse to deny Him on judgement day.

Just look around you at this world; look at the human body and all it does on a day to day basis. Look at how new life comes into this world, the sunset, the beauty and laughter this life brings. There will be pain because of who Satan is, but God sent Jesus to be the rescue.

Jesus is the vaccine, the lifesaving surgery, the friend who is there when we feel so alone. We sometimes have to change our mindset and realize Jesus is the answer to all of our problems. He isn’t trying to condemn you or make your life boring and strict. He is freedom, He is the key to an amazing life and eternity, and it absolutely matters if you will choose or deny Him on this earth.

He is here to save the day and to rescue you from your heartache and the judgement you deserve. He made a way when there was no way. He is the good guy. And He came just to save the day for you.

Hannah Smith, author of the Moving Mountains blog, is a woman who feels she has experienced a lot of life in her 33 years.

At 19 years old, Hannah joined the Army. After moving around the country, getting a divorce and losing what seemed like everything, she landed back where God wanted her in Ohio, even though she fought the whole way. She is now a devoted follower of Christ and seeks the Lord with all she’s got.

Hannah is married and a RN, but works as a stay-at-home mom to her 3 children per instruction from the Lord.

She loves to hike, travel, drink coffee, and talk about Jesus. Hannah also has a heart to create a home and life in which she can be a safe place for the hurting and the broken. Her biggest piece of advice would be to never tell the Lord you will never do something- because He will most likely then ask you to do that very thing, LOL!

To her readers, Hannah says, “I believe that God set every single one of you reading this apart, for such a time as this. It is my hope and prayer that God would use the words I say to change your life in a way you and I never thought possible!”

  • Wounded

Wounded: inflicted with a wound; injured

Did you know that our God has several names? Provider, Protector, and Healer are just some of these. And today I want to focus on Healer.

In the Bible, you can flip through the Gospels and find no shortage of times where Jesus healed someone. In one chapter He heals a man of leprosy. In another He makes the lame walk and the blind see.

Oftentimes, people think that because Jesus has returned to Heaven, there is no more healing. But that’s actually not correct.

In John 14:12, Jesus tells His disciples this: “Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father.”

From this we know that healing is still possible.

So if you’ve been carrying the burden of sickness or disease, know that healing is still available and possible. Jesus still has compassion for the sick, and healing can still occur.

And if you’ve been struggling with some mental, spiritual, or emotional wounds, healing can come to you as well.

James 5:14-15 says, “Is anyone among you sick? Let them call the elders of the church to pray over them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise them up. If they have sinned, they will be forgiven.”

If you are sick or wounded today, have faith that you can be healed. Speak healing over yourself, proclaim it, and thank the Lord for it. Have others come into agreement of this healing with you, and declare scripture over yourself.

Our God is still on the throne. He is still active and alive, and He still cares. Our God is still a healer…He is YOUR healer. Don’t lose heart.
